Macon Iron & Paper Stock, Inc. reaches a milestone in safety performance

Macon Iron & Paper Stock, Inc. has reached a milestone in safety performance that was celebrated at the regularly scheduled Safety Committee Meeting of 11/03/05. The employees of the company experienced two years without a lost time accident as of 10/12/2005. A banner congratulating the workforce was installed on the fence of the business so that all visitors can be made aware of this achievement. As of the meeting date, we have accumulated 758 days, or based on our headcount, 503,312 labor hours without a lost time accident. We are in an industry in which form, shape, size, length, weight and material specifications are constantly changing and cranes, hoists, forklifts, and other various mechanical equipment is utilized to process material and to prepare it for shipment to mills, etc. We have a proactive employee safety committee and train all of our workers in the Dupont Safety Training Observation Program (STOP) which is a behavioral based safety system. Intregal to our success is the ability of our workforce to report concerns, develop job safe practices, and implement changes to enhance the personal safety of our laborers and the response of management to support their safety initiatives and maintain our equipment in proper working order. We have a reputation for taking care of our personnel and our labor force has a reputation for dedicated service, that together, has enabled us to achieve this important level of safety and all of us understand that we are challenged to maintain our focus on extending our safety awareness and performance toward a goal of an accident free work environment. All of our associates are involved, every working day, to improve all of our actions that affect our safety culture, in which ownership of safety is a shared and vital component.
